I remember the reference to Rum Wadi in the movie Lawrence of Arabia, and I jumped at the chance to go there to stay in a Glamping hotel.
Of course, my rationale is that I was benchmarking Truffle Lodge against yet another Glamping retreat, and indeed I was doing that.
But just being in that astounding natural wonderland was what it was all about.
There is no doubt that we do some things better at Truffle Lodge.
Our tents and our ensuites are superior. Our communal areas and Lodge are far superior, although dining in their rustic bedouin tent was special. Our boardwalks make moving between tents easy whatever the weather, whereas the sand at the Rum Wadi camp creates some problems. Our night sky is even more impressive as the stars of the northern hemisphere cannot compare to the concentrations of the Milky Way.
But, as wonderful as our breakfast is, in our Lodge overlooking the pristine Derwent River, with vistas to the mountains, it really couldn’t trump breakfast cooked and served outdoors on a high rocky outcrop, gazing out across desert with dramatic rocky outcrops and camels passing by.
OK …. I need to up the ante on breakfasts at Truffle Lodge!
